During the rest of the summer, I’ll be posting interviews with writers from across the country and around the world. Hopefully, we can all inspire one another! You can see all of interviews already posted here, and if you want to participate, email me with “writer’s interview” as the subject line. I’ll keep posting as long as you guys keep sending them in.

Today’s interview is with Chesley Maldonado. Chesley is a freelance writer and specializes in web articles, blogs, and web pages. Her favorite topics are related to finance, personal development, women’s issues and relationships. Her website is www.freelancebychesley.com.

Why do you think freelancers get writer’s block? chesley

There are a few major reasons:

-fear of failure
-fear of success
-lack of confidence
-stress (either financial pressure or procrastination)
-distraction

How has writer’s block affected you?

I have found that when I can’t write it is because I feel overwhelmed. If my household chores are falling behind or if my work is starting to pile up, I tend to pull back and worry.

What’s the biggest challenge when it comes to staying motivated to write?

Family and friends. I love laughing and having fun with my husband and my other family and that can easily pull me away from a less than fascinating article. If a good friend calls, I’ll probably stop working.

Share with us your top tip for overcoming writer’s block and finding inspiration to keep working:

Personally, I journal, write something for myself, and pray. Sometimes there are thoughts lingering in the back of our minds that need to surface and be dealt with before creative juices can flow. I try to deal with whatever is bothering me, and then I can write again.

Thanks, Chesley!
