Moving Your iTunes Library

I was helping a friend with her new Macbook the other day. As we were finishing up, she asked me, “how do I copy my music from my old PC to the Mac?”. Since she didn’t bring her old PC nor her iPod I wasn’t able to help her at that moment. However it got me to think that this is probably one of the most common problems new Mac users have. Especially the getting music from a PC to a Mac. Mac to Mac isn’t that difficult since it’s the same platform. Complications arise when you start dealing with multiple platforms.

The good news is that we live in the Google age. A time wherein information is one search box away. I looked for several articles regarding this topic and posting it here for people who are switching computers or upgrading.

If you have an iPod, check out the “How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer” article found in Apple’s support site.

Geek To Live has an article titled “How to move an iTunes library from a PC to Mac (and back)” for those, well as the title says, moving from a PC to a Mac, oh and God forbid, Mac to a PC. Although this article is based on the premise that you let iTunes manage your music.

For those who manage their own music, there’s an article called “HOWTO: Move your iTunes music while preserving library data (when you don’t let iTunes manage your music library)” and this is from HiFi Blog.

I hope those link helps.
