The August Golden Slacker: David Allen
Inducted by David Zinger
I am delighted to induct Mr. David Allen as the August inductee in the Order of the Golden Slacker.

It is an honor to induct David Allen into the Order of the Golden Slacker.
David Allen helps us all get things done. He has done it so well that it is sufficient to refer to his productivity work as GTD. He outlined his approach in his book Ready for Anything by stating:
Get everything out of your head. Make decisions about actions required on stuff when it shows up — not when it blows up. Organize reminders of your projects and the next actions on them in appropriate categories. Keep your system current, complete, and reviewed sufficiently to trust your intuitive choices about what you’re doing (and not doing) at any time.
A Quick Review/Reminder of the attributes of Slacker Managers:
- infuse work with passion and purpose
- focus on smarter not harder work
- ensure that work is effective and efficient
- leverage learning for results
- commit to both personal and professional development
- draw out the strengths of others and themselves
- transform “me thinking” to “we thinking”
- weave results and relationships into good management
- delegate for results and development
- engage in lifelong learning in diverse and multiple ways
- value giving and serving ahead of taking and being served
- willingly admit when they don’t know something
- use all available resources
- laugh as leaders – taking work seriously and themselves lightly
I believe David has made very significant contributions on many of these items for all managers. especially numbers 2 & 3. A slacker manager is not lazy, a slacker manager finds ways to create slack with more effectiveness and efficiency and following David’s GTD approach will certainly do that for any manager!

Excellent choice!
Ernest,
I have to agree with you and think GTD provides very useful tools and roadmaps for helping managers get things done.
David
And David Allen himself says in his seminars that he’s one of the laziest people he knows — he wants to do the work with the least amount of resistance possible — a perfect candidate for a Slacker Manager!
Seriously, I’ve followed the GTD methodology for about two years now and it has literally changed my life in organizing my work. David’s methodology is one of the rare instances where high productivity and low stress are not mutually exclusive.
Nice choice.
