Musings on the Olympics and How to Get In

It’s 2007. It’s the last year for all Olympic hopefuls to train and qualify for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

How do you train exactly? How much time do you put in? How do you qualify?

Here are a few things I’ve heard that you have to endeavour:

  • train full-time to even have the slightest chance of qualifying
  • enter in major international competitions for your sport
  • be born with it, the talent or, er, the skill, that is

It still amazes me, sometimes, how these athletes achieve feats that seem transcedent — utterly breathtaking if you’d be lucky to witness it. Take this guy for example. How can a man be that fast? How does he do it? Ack!

As for me, I think I’ll be quite comfortable sitting on the couch enjoying the Olympics by simply watching. I would even dare go to Beijing. Nah-uh.
