All of us here at the Biz Channel are having a contest this month. We are giving a sort of “dream” post about what we want to be when we grow up. The deadline is midnight tonight, so there’s still time to get your entry in. The rules are here, and there are some really cool prizes in store for the one whose comments garners the most attention.
But, for now, here is my dream post.

When I was a young girl, like almost every other little girl, I wanted to be a teacher. I so wanted the power they wielded with their rulers and action with their words. Telling kids what to do and being the authoritarian was the ideal job to me. However, I think I grew out of that when I got to high school and realized that perhaps I wasn’t cut out for teaching when I realized that a) some kids were just plain bad and I did not have a “transformation” personality and b) teachers just do not make that much money. So there went my dream of teaching.
In the next few years after high school, there was much soul-searching to decide what I wanted to be in life. It wasn’t until I became a “mommy” ten years ago that I actually felt comfortable with my decision and it felt “right”. What sparked my initial teaching idea was my love for reading and writing and the kudos that I would get from the teachers all the time about how good I was at both. They both (reading and writing) parlayed pretty easily into a career of speaking and writing as I got older. I didn’t realize how much the two were a part of my life until after I became a mommy and saw that I so desparately wanted to stay at home and raise my children – - and still stay connected to the corporate scene. I have been able to successfully do both of them by tapping into my strengths and developing (and still am) my skills as a freelance writer and speaker.
I found my niche in the world.
What about you? What do YOU want to be when you grow up?

Bridget, your daughter is adorable and I love your story. Thanks for sharing it. :)
