It was with great sadness that nascar.com reported today the death of 28-year-old Brienne Davis, a full-time NASCAR carburetor and manifold inspector. She was killed in an automobile accident Tuesday night near Charlotte. Brienne joined NASCAR’s inspection team in 2004 after a 2-year stint with Dale Earnhardt Inc, during which time she served as one of the team’s engine builders.NASCAR officials issued the following statement, “We are deeply saddened at the loss of NASCAR Cup Official Brienne Davis. She was a key member to our team of inspectors and will be missed by the NASCAR community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.”

In other news:
- Bill Davis Racing has filed a lawsuit against Rockford-Montgomery Labs – maker of 360 OTC – for allegedly failing to pay their sponsorship dues for full-time sponsorship of BDR’s #36 car last season. According to the lawsuit filed by Bill Davis, Rockford-Montgomery has paid only $25,000 of the $14 million owed to the race team for 2007, an amount that was scheduled to increase to $14.5 million this year and $15 million in 2009. Rockford-Montgomery Labs is also the subject of lawsuits recently filed by Just Marketing, World of Outlaws, and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

- Johnnie Wayne Murrah was recently charged with “Theft Under $100″ in Maryland for stealing a 5′ cardboard standup of racing legend Dale Earnhardt from a Wawa Convenience Store. The man stole the cutout back on March 12th, but wasn’t actually charged with the crime until this past Monday. The cutout has been returned, and will now be put up for auction, with the proceeds to be donated to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore.

That some sad news to hear about brienne. On the flip side, that’s hilarious about the guy steeling the junior cutout!

  2. Solo auto accidents are the worse. They almost always create more questions than they need.

RML is in a world of hurt… they seemed to have bailed on everyone… what’s up with that?

I meet Brei at a race once and we talked for awhile. I really liked her and felt close to her for some reason. She was very sweet and friendly. I am really saddned by her loss and I feel like I lost a friend. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who ever knew her and loved her.

Bruce, I would imagine that the bottom line on RML is that they just didn’t turn the profit that they were looking for and got in way over their head.

Vickie, that’s pretty cool that you met Brienne. I’ve heard many good things about her.
