Detroit NBC Affiliate Runs Disclaimer Under Matt Millen’s Face During Superbowl

You know, when I was watching the Superbowl I was very surprised to see Matt Millen sitting at the desk along with the other commentators. As a Packer fan, it was delightful to have Millen as the General Manager for the Detroit Lions for the past few years. After all, the Packers were always guaranteed at least two wins a year! Like most non-Lion fans, I was more than happy to see Millen stay there forever.
Of course, Lions fans aren’t exactly singing Millen’s praises. And for good reason. It will likely take years to undo what he did to that team. He ran it right into the ground.
So when I saw him sitting among other coaches as if he was some football genius, I just laughed. Turned out what I thought was so funny was darn right painful to the folks in Detroit. (And really, guys, I can’t blame you one bit.)
Yahoo sports reports that NBC’s Detroit affiliate, WDIV, ran a disclaimer under Millen’s mug every time it showed up on camera that said:
“Matt Millen was president of the Lions for the worst eight-year run in the history of the NFL. Knowing his history with the team, is there a credibility issue as he now serves as an analyst for NBC Sports?”
The Superbowl, of course, was on NBC. All I can say is OUCH! That is ballsy, if I do say so myself.
Of course Millen was an analyst before he became GM of the Lions. However, the fact that he drove that team into the ground AND managed to get Brett Favre entangled in yet more controversy in the process kind of negates his previous announcing experience. Dontcha think?
