Word in the Financial Times is that Lara might find a new boss in the form of television giant NBC Universal. A deal is close to closing that would see UK-based SCi Entertainment Group, including its subsidiary Eidos Interactive (of Tomb Raider fame), gain $100m in investments from NBC, making the media mega-company a majority stakeholder.

Of interest is the fact that Warner Bros. Entertainment also has a piece of the SCi pie, holding a 10.3% stake in the company.

The moves come as part of a rescue mission for the flagging company, which has faced a rather rough ride of the past couple of years. Plenty of deals rumoured, all falling through, talks of doors closing for good, departing upper management, persistend financial problems, massive restructuring and budget cuts…you name it, SCi has been through it.

So now we’ve got a game, potentially partially controlled by Time Warner’s Warner Bros. Entertainment, Vivendi (NBC Universal Entertainment), and whose movie deals have been through Paramount, a Viacom company. Can the picture get any more muddled do you think?
