Sometimes you get to a point in your small business, where you need a little extra help, but you’re not ready to hire someone full time, or even part time. Maybe you like operating your small business solo, or maybe your business cannot support a regular employee paycheck.

How can you get a little extra help when you need it? Why not give a virtual assistant a try? There are many people out there offering their services these days as virtual assistants. You can pass off some of your least favorite tasks to someone else, or jobs that you have a difficult time completing.

What are some tasks you can pass off to a virtual assistant?

  • Routine followup, or customer service calls. If there’s a problem, or the customer needs further assistance you can have them refer the customer back to you for a follow up.
  • Record keeping
  • You can have your virtual assistant do market research, or research your competition.
  • Create spreadsheets, charts, or graphs.
  • Write follow up, and customer service letters and emails.
  • Schedule appointments
  • Answer incoming phone calls. With today’s phone technology, you can re-route calls to your virtual assistant to be answered.

There are many reputable virtual assistant companies out there, or you can look around for someone local to you. Many people who advertise as virtual assistants can do several different business related tasks, but some specialize in specific jobs.

Think outside the box for your own business. What could a virtual assistant help you do?

It’s a good idea. The only question is how is the job done and how can you know if its been done properly and not diverted to someone in India to do for a few rupees.

Most of these companies do not explain clearly on their website what the process is and then people could not be bothered even if they need the service. Lack of clarity means there going to be a pain to work with unless they specialise.

It’s better to pick someone you know. The idea is sound but most of the time you don’t know who your dealing with unless you can get there and see them in action first.
