Net Neutrality and Freelance Writers

“Net Neutrality” is one of those terms we hear from time-to-time. I was reminded of it today when I clicked on WorkBoxers Net Neutrality Links 11-24-2007, but I ended up being more confused than ever.
A search led me to Google’s Guide to Net Neutrality – good start, but the definitions are still squishy. But, after spending some time at SaveTheInternet.com, I think I get it. The question is:
Should ISPs (Internet Service Providers) – the folks we pay to get our internet connection, be allowed to control the content allow that travels over their networks?
According to SaveTheInternet.com, and their blog, it’s already happening to one degree or another.
That’s not what I want for and from the ‘net. How about you?

Before coming to a final conclusion about the issue, I highly recommend checking out our blog at HandsOff.org. You could fairly call us the opposition to Save the Internet and Google on this, and our group does include some ISPs as members, but not ISPs exclusively.
Needless to say, the issue is much more complicated than the sites above put it, and they represent only part of it.
I’ll also recommend George Ou, who is a columnist at ZDNet and not aligned with either side, but gives a full view of things, and I think there’s a lot to like about how he puts it. Here’s one of his best — “A Rational Debate on Net Neutrality”.

Dave, interesting links, and Ou’s article is also interesting, if dense. I must admit that I think, on the whole, I don’t trust most corporations… they’ve been given, imo, way too much freedom… off the top of my head, the different way the EU treats chemicals in toys, etc… preventative rather than requiring “proof”… or the consolidation of media which means entertainment instead of news.
