Netflix Previews

Netflix is going to start expanding into a new area in the movie business, delivery movie previews via their website. This is a great idea, but I don’t know if they can really compete with Apple’s Movie Trailers site.

My biggest complaint is having to download yet another proprietary player for things to work with Netflix. That’s a huge hurdle for me to get over right now for me trying out new things. I’m tired of downloading and installing yet another application to essentially do the same thing I’ve got 3+ other applications doing that I’ve already got installed.

Is there just not a business aspect of partnering with someone that’s already got a player? I mean why wouldn’t Netflix partner with Microsoft and the Windows Media Player, or Apple’s Quicktime/iTunes, or RealPlayer.
