Twitter. Facebook. LinkedIn, MySpace, and StumbleUpon. I could go on and on – social networking is one of the best ways to grow your business as a freelance writer.
But social networking isn’t just about making profiles and adding friends. That’s just the online part of it. Don’t forget how important it is to take social networking offline as well by attending networking events. Your clients may contact you through email, but they exist in real life too.
Along with big blogging events, join some local chapters of business groups. Do your research – some may cost a lot more than others. You can also attend writer-friendly events like book clubs, and if you have a book published – even self-published – talk to some local book stores about doing a reading or signing. Networking just as important offline as it is online.

YES! This is so true! If it weren’t for the co-founders of VOIS.com telling me to get on Twitter and Facebook, then I would have never met such wonderful freelancers, networkers, and techies becuase I never would have known that such events really were legit and awesome ways to meet new people in similar fields.
Although I have the guys at VOIS.com to thank for that. The guys here encouraged me to start my own business, and right now I am working with a web and an interior designer in starting my own company. By attending these events and meeting people, I found myself a PR friend who is going to help me with the marketing. I couldn’t be happier. Freelancing, Starting up, and networking can be so easy and possible! Thanks.
