New “Super Mario Galaxy 2” Trailer!

The trailer for Super Mario Galaxy 2 has been revealed and I am extraordinarily excited!  I absolutely loved the first one and judging from what I’m seeing here, they’ve made some excellent improvements.

First of all, I’m glad that they have chosen to keep the environment familiar since this game was a little tricky to get used to since you’re not only controlling Mario’s movements with the Wii Remote but he also goes from standing upright to being upside down since there are changes in gravity in the atmosphere.

The biggest and best addition?  YOSHI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited that Yoshi is going to be in this game!  I think it is going to make some tasks a lot easier but, if you’ve ever played with Yoshi, then you’ll know that he also makes things a little trickier at times.  He runs off if you bump into an enemy, maneuvering around obstacles can take a little effort as you come up with a strategy for doing things with and without him, etc…  Still, overall, it’s better to have Yoshi and I’m absolutely thrilled.  I did learn that the blue star cursor thing that Mario uses to aim gets replaced with a red dot when he’s riding Yoshi so that he can aim and control his tongue!  That’s going to come in handy!

Having his trusty sidekick isn’t the only new trick up Mario’s sleeve.  He will be armed with a new drill that allows him to get through dirt surfaces and entire planets.  Of course, this will give him access to new areas.

As with many Mario titles, there will be a switch (this time it’s a black and white thing) that slows down time so that Mario can have the upper-hand on enemies and obstacles which will start to move a lot more slowly.

While the environment has been improved upon (the horizon looks better and there will be more open areas), some things will be making a return.  Mario will still have access to the pearl-colored Luma that allows Mario to “spin” and power-ups (including that crazy Bee Suit) along with the Star Sling for interplanetary navigation.
