New Chico DeBarge Album “Addiction”

Chico DeBarge’s new album Addiction becomes available today. In case the name sounds familiar, he is a younger brother of the members of the group DeBarge (who you might remember sang mostly in falsetto and had some hits in the 80s). Chico released a self-titled album back in 1986 but, unfortunately, his life since then has been rough. He
went to jail on drug charges in the 1990s and then was stabbed outside of a nightclub in Philadelphia in 2003.
It’s good to see that he’s trying to get his life back on track with this new album. After listening to the preview, I can see that it truly is about addiction. In the opening track, Chico is heard attending a self-help addiction meeting where he says that he’s a “recovering addict.”
I was pleasantly surprised by the tracks. At times, it kind of reminded me of the sound D’Angelo had on his Brown Sugar album. It’s a little rough around the edges but I think it’s a great comeback effort by DeBarge.
Here’s the track listing:
- Addiction Meeting
- Nefertiti/Center Of The Universe
- Oh No
- Tell Ur Man
- Math Featuring Talib Kweli
- Do My Bad Alone
- Slick(Addiction)
- I’m Okay
- Medication
- She Loves Me
- I Want You
- I Forgot Ur Name
- Hey U
- Chico’s Prayer
- Change by Lylit
