New Horror Adventure Will Scare Your Pants Right Off

Well, it seems as though the Horror/Adventure genre is really picking up some speed recently. I guess the adventure genre just makes it easy for developers to come up with some wacky, scary, mind numbing horror games like Scratches and Penumbra: Overture. Well, now there is a new horror/adventure game due to be out entitled DARKNESS WITHIN: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder and it’s bound to send shivers up your find… you know.. if you scare easily. Which I don’t. Except for games. Horror games scare me. A lot.

The game is to be produced by a company called Lighthouse Interactive, a company which has put out several games, but none that I recognize. But that doesn’t mean a lot, because none of the games seem to be “adventure game” oriented. The story of the game seems interesting, however:

As police detective Howard E. Loreid, players are tasked to solve the murder of Clark Field, a wealthy man involved in the occult. At the top of your list of suspects is Loath Nolder, a highly respected private investigator who mysteriously abandoned his last case for reasons unknown. Rumor had it that he ventured to several exotic places around the world. It remains a great mystery as to why Loath Nolder disappeared so suddenly, resurfacing five years later and resuming his investigations just as abruptly as he had left them. Why does this venerated P.I. now sit on the other side of the law?

This seemingly routine investigation takes a dramatic twist as strange and terrifying happenings begin to plague your psyche. You experience lucid horrifying dreams and are tormented by paranormal happenings. Why do days pass instead of hours when you sleep? What’s real and what’s not? As you pursue fugitive murder suspect Loath Nolder, you must face dire truths hidden deep within a haunting darkness and the recesses of your mind.

And just look at the screenshots:

This is one scary assed mask. That’s for damn sure.

You have to admit, these shots do give a feeling of the foreboding, don’t they? They’re all dark and scary looking, which I guess is a good thing if you’re into that whole “scaring the crap” out of somebody.

If you want to read more about the game, take a look at the press release on Lighthouse Entertainment’s site.

Wow, looks great, Amber. Can’t wait to try it out for myself. One thing I love about adventure games, they don’t punish my system.

Thanks for the warm welcome the other day. I’m just getting acquainted with the blog, and everyday is just as exciting!

Gnome, that has to be the funniest comment you’ve ever left. LOVE IT.

  4. Penumbra becomes repetative after a short while yawn zzzzz. I think its unforgiveable that Silent hill is the only game you could call scary, Necronomican on the playstation one was heading down the right road but that was the first and last….. humph. Where are all these heart stopping, panic attack inducing, cardiac arresting games we crave…… hint hint Clive Barker or Konami if your listening i know you can do better…. COME ON. Technology these days isnt used to its full potential and its a waste and a crime and im totally fed up to say the least. To be immersed totally in a game at night with the lights off…. literally holding your breath and feeling your heart racing… now thats a game. We could take Saw (the movie) for example mix it with silent hill and have ourselves a game that grown men would be sleeping with all the lights on lol. Come on games world your boring me to death with the lack of imagination and cutting corners with the money side of things (and you know what i mean ie Tomb Raider when they changed Laura into a little figure almost as agile as Mario need i say anymore lol)… lets start to create games worth putting on the trophy shelf for horror fans. We would be prepared to pay a high price for a game IF it was doing its job and by job i dont mean hiding behind the door jumping out and screaming BOOOO. Ps if anyone has played anything that they think is scary post it i would love to know.
