The MacBook Pro got a much anticipated upgrade today. With speeds up to 2.5 Ghz (2.6 Ghz BTO), the new MacBook Pro is now as much as 74% faster than the first generation MacBook Pro Core Duo that came out a couple of years ago.
Apart from processor and storage upgrades a significant improvement on the MacBook Pro is the inclusion of the Multi-Touch trackpad similar to those found in the MacBook Air. This is what excited me the most. Having played with the MacBook Air and having gotten a taste of the Multi-Touch trackpad, I loved it almost instantly. So this is definitely a welcome addition to the MacBook Pro.
The 17″ model also gains the LED Backlit display as a BTO option. That’s a plus as well. Less power, better displays. How can you go wrong with that? for the 17″ it’s an additional $100 though.
Both highend 15″ and 17″ model get a video card upgrade with 512MB VRAM packing a lot of video power. Enough to satisfy both work and gaming needs of most people.
Like the MacBooks, the MBP also loses the bundled Apple remote but gains a DVI-VGA adapter. This is probably a good move by Apple. Most MBP users won’t be using the Apple remote anyway. I haven’t even opened my remote. It’s still sealed in the plastic.
Apple’s pro line of laptops just got better. Check out the press release here and the tech specs here.
