A new Pete Dye-designed 18-hole golf course opened this weekend at southern Indiana’s French Lick Resort. The course follows a complete $4.6 million renovation of the resort’s Donald Ross course, which was originally laid out in 1917.

Ninety-year-old Dye is one of America’s premier course designers. Among his designs is the TPC Sawgrass course in Florida. The PGA Professional National Championship tournament is scheduled to be played on the new course at French Lick in 2010.

French Lick is located a little over an hour’s drive from Louisville, 2 1/2 hours from Indianapolis, and about five hours from Chicago. In addition to golf, facilities at French Lick include two spas, a conference center, multiple pools, a concert stage, horse stables, and several restaurants.
