New regulations for wine ice cream

I’d never heard of such a thing as wine ice cream, but then I shouldn’t be that surprised given the tales of olive oil gelato and Guinness ice cream I have heard of.
Well, NY lawmakers want to ruin all the fun for dessert favoring winos – there is a bill aiming to regulate frozen desserts containing wine by limiting the alcohol content to 5%, requiring prominent warning labels on the packaging and prohibiting sales to anyone under the age of 21.
The best part? According to Jeff Kostic, owner of Cayuga Lake Creamery (which includes a Reisling Orange and Merlot Dark Cherry on it’s exceedingly delicious-sounding menu) you’d have to consume two gallons of wine ice cream or one pint of wine sorbet to equal one glass of wine.
Two gallons, people.
I’m pretty sure you’d have a tummyache before you actually reached the point of “tipsy”.
Another player in the frozen wine desserts industry is Wine Cellar Sorbet. Their recipe for a Champagne Float sounds absolutely heavenly.
Champagne Float
Ingredients
- Your favorite Wine Cellar Sorbet varietal (I say stick with the theme and choose their All Natural Champagne varietal)
- Semi-sweet sparkling wine (don’t skimp! Go Veuve or go home!)
- Confectioner Sugar
Directions
- Powder rim of Champagne flute with sugar
- Place 2 oz scoop into Champagne flute
- Pour sparkling wine
Mmmm, yummy.

Sounds tasty! I might have to give it a shot!
Doesn’t it? I admit, I was craving it last night…a trip to upstate NY might just be worth it unless I can find a vendor here in Toronto…
Oy vey. these government gonads have to take the fun out of everything… like, go legislate something that actually matters all ready!
hey, thanks a billion for the link : )
cheers, gwen
LOL…Indeed. And you’re welcome, Gwen! I love the approach and am contemplating having Virgo cocktails served at my birthday party… :-)
