New This Week: “Year One”

Year One hits theaters this Friday and features the unlikely pairing of Jack Black and Michael Cera. I cannot decide if I am actually going to go through the trouble of seeing this movie on the big screen but I do admit that it’s a creative idea.
As the name suggests, the plot unfolds 2008 years ago in “year one” where “a couple of lazy hunter-gatherers (Black and Cera) are banished from their primitive village, they set off on an epic journey through the ancient world.”
Along the way, they encounter some interesting characters including Adam and Eve (Harold Ramis and Rhoda Griffis), Cain and Abel (David Cross and Paul Rudd), and Abraham (Hank Azaria).
It will be interesting to see what kind of on-screen chemistry that cast will create. While it comes off a little cheesy I think that Black’s over-the-top, physical comedy could pair very nicely with Cera’s subdued, intelligent and ironic humor (I really loved him in Superbad, Juno and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist). When you combine this with the fact that the movie is being directed and is based on a story by Harold Ramis (Ghostbusters).
Hmmm… I think I just talked myself into seeing this movie. Check out the trailer and tell me what you think:
