Paul Newman is extending his brand again. This time, he’s licensing his name for wine. Two California wine companies, Rebel Wine Co. and St. Helena, will produce Newman’s Own branded wine, and as usual with Newman’s Own products, the profits and royalties after taxes will be donated to charity.
According to an article on Adage.com, the wine will sell for $16 per bottle and is intended to complement the other products in the Newman’s Own product line of over 100 items including pasta sauce, salsa, marinades, cookies, lemonade, popcorn and pet food.
What do you think? Will wine drinkers choose a celebrity-branded wine with profits going to charity over other wines in the same price range? Is $16 too much for Newman’s Own branded wine? I’ve always been happy with the products I’ve tried from the Newman’s Own product line, so I expect Newman’s Own wine will be good, too. What do you think about Paul Newman’s latest brand extension?

I love Newman’s Own products for the taste, organic focus and the charitable giving aspect. The lemonades are my favorites, so good! I’m not sure about paying $16 for a ‘novelty’ wine though. I’m usually the $10 and under wine customer – and there are some really good wines in that price range. Still, I would probably give Newman’s Own Wine at least one tasting, just for fun.
Newman’s Own products have always been much better than my initial expectations would have lead me to believe.
When I see this in my local grocery store, I’ll certainly give it a try… why not?
I really like Newman’s products, adding a wine is good thinking, it may be a little pricey but for those special occasions it would be nice. I think people will think about buying his wine to help out the charities.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if cele brat ies..used their fame to genuinely do good things in the world. What are you going to do today Paris…?
Right now I am drinking a glass of a $22 bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, that does not come even close to the great taste of the Paul Newman Cab……..had it last night and have to say it was fantastic!! Thanks Paul…….uhh, I mean Mr. Newman! Ü
