NFL Commissioner could be named today

Paul TagliabueJim Corbett reported in USA Today that the replacement for Paul Tagliabue could be named today.

Paul’s right hand man, Roger Goodell was seen to be the favorite for the job. Oddly, Paul is not endorsing him for the job.

Nowadays, the Commissioner has to be a legal expert as most of the stuff that happens deals with law. Does the Players Union have power over this area, can the Owners move their teams, how do we test for drugs, what is the contractual agreements with the networks.

Gee, count me out for throwing my hat into the ring for Commissioner.

Pete RozelleBack in the day, we had Pete Rozelle leading the National Football League to prominence. We saw league expansion, increasing salaries, Monday night football, and the most watched sports event in America, the Super Bowl.

Unfortunately towards the end of his career as commissioner all the legal issues came to the forefront and tainted the legend of Pete Rozelle.

Fan Question Do you think the Commissioner of Football makes a big difference? Why is Paul Tagliabue not recommending Roger Goodell?
