NFL Football – The All Pro Team or the Legion of Super Heroes?

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Legion of Super Heroes

Legion of Super Heroes cover art for issue 33 by Chris BatistaRemember when you were a kid and there was a comic called the legion of super heroes? The NFL All Pro team is the NFL Legion of Super Heroes with each player having special powers to win games or make tackles or just plain thrill crowds of testosterone filled fans.

Let’s take a look at some different things about the team.

LaDainian Tomlinson will not have time to enjoy this for a few more weeks he hopes.

What’s that, you say, he can’t enjoy?

Well, LT made the All Pro Team. An obvious choice, but none the less, something that all players are judged by.

So, why can’t he enjoy it?

He can’t enjoy it for the same reasons he could not enjoy the MVP or the Offensive Player of the Year. The Chargers are in the playoffs and based on their record would have to be the favorites to win it all.

Yeah? So.

Well, that is a lot of pressure on LT to perform at his highest level. He is counted on to score almost 2 touchdowns per game.

Oh.

Oh, is a good response because Tomlinson leaves everyone speechless. He is plain incredible. You know about his 28 rushing touchdowns, a new record, his 3 receiving touchdowns, giving his 31 total TDs on the year, but did you know he did something even more incredible?

What could be more incredible than that?

That answer to that my friend is a little thing known as the single season scoring record formerly held by Packer great and Hall of Famer, Paul Hornung. LaDainian had 186 points on the season to break that record from the nineteen sixties.

Who was the Defensive Player of the Year? Is he on the team?

Oh yeah, listen to what he said:

“My whole idea to go out on a Sunday is to be a pain in the butt for the other team,” said Taylor, who had 62 tackles, 13 1/2 sacks, 14 quarterback hurries, two interceptions — both returned for TDs — 11 passes defensed, 10 fumbles forced and two fumbles recovered.

“If I can be a pain in their butt and give somebody a headache, then more times than not, it’s going to work out well for myself.” source

That was Jason Taylor of Miami.

How about surprises? Are there any surprises on the team.

Well, one that struck me, was that Drew Brees beat out Peyton Manning by one vote for the 1st string quarterback. Peyton has been an automatic for years.

Tell me more.

How about this one. Lance Briggs, Bart Scott, and Ronde Barber all had awesome seasons and yet were only on the second team!

And stranger yet, Shawne Merriman misses 4 games on a steroid usage charge, still ends up with 17 sacks and makes the team!

San Diego has 5 starters and 1 backup and Chicago had 4 starters and 1 backup. Brian Urlacher was one of those Chicago starters and he has become an almost automatic pick. He is downright scary!

Champ Bailey dominated the stats and the field at cornerback. After a while, teams would not even throw to his side of the field.

You seem a little excited.

Aahh, did you know that…. You gotta just go look at the list and see some of these guys play. They are just the Legion of Super NFL Heroes.
