Nike Take it to the Next Level

Take it to the next level is a new ad from Nike and I love it (for a far better quality video go to the Nike page). Strong story, getting you right into the heart of the action – the camera operator must have had an interesting job! It’s from 72andSunny, directed by Guy Ritchie (Adfreak) You see the Nike logos and web address throughout, bringing the branding to you throughout. Nike put it on their YouTube channel on Friday and it’s been gaining steady views. The football fans there are just astounded at the players involved (I even recognised a few of them!) and seem to love it.

But there’s not that much conversation about the ad on the boards, in fact conversation about Nike in general has declined in the last week. However, the campaign itself launches today and the blogs are starting to pick it up , so with the ad in TV and being promoted on their site, then I would expect to see an increase in mentions.

I’m with Digicynic though – where’s the rest of the stuff. It looks like this kicks off a summer ‘boot camp‘, where you can sign in, get training videos and compete with friends through some kind social network on the site, but it’s not clear. Not 100% sue if that is the case, but if it is, then it could be worth waiting for, given Nike’s previous success with ideas like this. I’ve signed up and await more information with interest ;) (just don’t expect me to do the training – unless some of you want to join in?)

Am I the only one who finds Take it the Next Level about the lamest call to action in the history of sports marketing? I guess it’s better than Be a Winner or Take it to the Top, but not much. Why did Nike get an LA mini agency to do their Euros campaign? Maybe Nike can get a Japanese agency to do their Superbowl work this year. WTF?
