Nintendo DSi = Region Locked

Ohhh, bad news for those of you interested in the new Nintendo DSi. Apparently, Nintendo is making the game region locked. What does that mean for you? Well, if you like to play games that are only meant for other countries besides your own, you won’t be able to. No more finding a Japanese or European version of a game on eBay, buying it and playing it on your American DSi. And apparently, a LOT of people are into doing stuff like that. That’s why a lot of people liked the regular ol’ DS, because there wasn’t such non-sense involved.

Why is Nintendo making the DSi region locked? Well, the excuse kind of sounds lame to me: they’ve embedded net communication functionality within the DSi which will provide online services for specific regions. And not only have they region locked the DSi, they’ve also region locked the DSi cartridges! You can still play the DSi games on your regular DS, but you won’t be able to play European DSi games on your American DS. Oh, and let’s not forget this little tidbit: do you have friends from different countries that you like to play your WiFi DS games with? Well, too bad! If your DSi isn’t from the same region as your friend, you won’t get to play with them! How else would we be one with our fellow man if we can’t play Nintendo DS games with them?! WORLD PEACE IS DOOMED.

I think we should all march on Washington and stop this malarkey. Okay, that didn’t even make sense. Dangit.
