Nintendo has to be feeling pretty darn proud of themselves. Both the Wii and the Nintendo DS are dominating the sales charts for November, setting records left and right and leaving Microsoft and Sony in the dust. Granted, Microsoft and Sony have nothing to cry about, really. Despite the economic crisis neither company is doing too poorly.

But then, Nintendo is just pwning:

With more than 3.6 million combined systems sold in November, Wii™ and Nintendo DS™ set new hardware sales records, according to the independent NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. The Wii console sold more than 2 million in November, a new all-time record for a non-December month. The Nintendo DS system sold more than 1.56 million in November, which is now the second-highest total for a non-December month in history. The Wii console has sold 15.4 million in the United States since it launched in November 2006, and Nintendo DS has sold nearly 24.6 million in the United States since it launched in November 2004.

The breakdown is as follows:

  • Wii – 2,040,000
  • Nintendo DS – 1,570,000
  • Xbox 360 – 836,000
  • PSP – 421,000
  • PlayStation 3 – 378,000
  • PlayStation 2 – 206,000

Not wanting to be left behind, Sony sent out their own press release. Here are some of their numbers:

  • [PS3] has continued its strong momentum during the holiday season with 378,071 hardware units sold in November, representing an increase of almost 100% from October.
  • From January to November 2008, more than 2.8 million PS3s have been sold in the U.S., representing a year-to-date hardware sales growth of more than 60%.
  • [...] more that 3,552,456 software units were sold for PS3 in November, representing a year-to-date growth of 150%.

Sales for the PSP have increased 118% from October, which Sony sounds pleased with.

Overall, it just seems like they’re all doing pretty well and that bodes well for the future of the video games industry.

Keep it up, guys!
