Nintendo Wii Close to 1 Million Sales in UK Alone

No doubt everyone knows by now that Nintendo and its beloved Wii console is kicking butt all over the place when it comes to sales figures. UK sales alone indicate that the Wii is close to hitting the one million mark. Estimates given show that the Wii sales will surpass GameCube’s 1.4 million sales mark by October.

At the moment, Wii is out-pacing Microsoft’s Xbox 360 by more than 4-to-1 and Sony’s PlayStation 3 by over 6-to-1. It has also been highlighted that the Xbox 360’s UK total of roughly 1.2 million could be eclipsed by the end of October as well. With the Wii last reportedly being on a total of ~620,000 units in early June this just goes to show how fast the hardware is flying off the shelves right now. Clearly factors such as an imminent 360 price drop and the release of Halo 3 are likely to have an effect on this, but still it is a remarkable achievement. In addition to this, the DS is apparently around the four million units sold marker in the UK!

Over on the other side of the world the story does not change much either, with the latest GfK Australia figures showing that for the month of July 2007, Wii out-sold the combined total of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for that same period. So far the Wii has sold 138,192 units, a rise of 31,654 from previous numbers released at the beginning of July. In the same instance, the Xbox 360 is now at 195,056, up 13,495 units, and PlayStation 3 at 66,503, up 11,775 units.

Those are some sweet numbers for Nintendo.

Looking forward to seeing how the Wii does during the Holiday season.
