In a case filed by InterDigital, Nokia was accused of infringing on four patents. On Friday, the United States International Trade Commission ruled in favor of Nokia in its Initial Determination.
Said Ilkka Rahnasto of Nokia: “We believe this initial determination by the ITC combined with earlier UK court decisions provide a strong indication that the asserted value of InterDigital’s 3G patent portfolio may have been over-estimated.”
The patents were related to the UMTS mobile standard. While this Initial Determination is the first step, Nokia has a Dec. 14 date to hear the ITC’s Final Determination.
Nokia is a communications company that is headquartered in the country of Finland and has a history dating back to 1865. It has approximately 120,000 employees in 120 countries around the globe.
