The United States beat Mexico by 27 in some international basketball game that was in no way affiliated with the Olympics. This is not news. The only reason I mention it is because only after America beat Mexico by 27 points did I become aware that Team Mexico is coached by Nolan Richardson. Yes, the very same Nolan Richardson who coached the NCAA Champions Arkansas Razorbacks. So, a former NCAA champion coach leads a team of rag-tag basketball players from an unlikely nation? No way that isn’t a movie pitch.

Nolan Richardson is a down-on-his-luck basketball coach with a team of rag-tag Mexicans. Just maybe he can teach them something about basketball, while they teach him a little bit about life, as he tries to regain his lost glory and quiet his inner demons. They learn lessons, overcome setbacks and work as a team. There’s a couple montages, and eventually Nolan Richardson (played by Sam Jackson) delivers an inspiring speech about how they’re truly winners so long as they try their best. The best Mexican player (Benicio Del Toro) has some sort of obstacle too. Maybe drugs, but most likely just self-doubt so we can get a PG-13 rating. Also, if possible, Abigail Breslin will hang around the games and be adorable. Start producing, right away. We can call it Mexi-Coach!
I call a writing credit.
