Not Too Cool

"New York Cool needs a few new writers for 2007. We especially need music and theater writers with background in these field but can use other types of writers (nightlife etc.). These are unpaid positions but are a lot of fun and our writers get great exposure. But unpaid or not, we only want the best writers, ones who are capable of delivering clean copy that requires only a small amount of editing. All or our writers have to be incredibly reliable and capable of showing up at their gigs on time and working on a deadline. This is freelance work and does not require that you show up at an office, almost everything is handled through email."

I’m thinking the person behind New York Cool needs to take a course in being realistic. Only the best? Clean copy? Showing up? Deadlines? Oh honey. If you want that stuff you have to pay. I beg to differ. This is not freelance work. Freelance indicates some form of payment. This is volunteer work. That’s what people who give up the goods for nothing do. They volunteer, they don’t freelance. Emailing work is not a perk. Money is. Not too cool at all.
