Now In Theaters: “12 Rounds”

WWE Studios (a division of World Wrestling Entertainment) released 12 Rounds yesterday, starring WWE star, John Cena (he made his acting debut in one of their other films, The Marine). In the movie, Cena plays Detective Danny Fisher, a man who is desperate to save his girlfriend, Molly Porter (Ashley Scott), after she is kidnapped by an internationally-known terrorist named Miles Jackson (Aiden Gillen). Detective Fisher must successfully navigate through the streets of New Orleans and complete “12 rounds” of carefully plotted games.

Honestly, judging from the trailer and plot, I don’t think I’ll be seeing this movie in theaters or when it comes out on DVD. One thing that I noticed from the trailer and from reading reviews is that the camerawork is a bit all-over-the-place and is even a little nauseating. Still, Cena gives off a bit of a Mark Wahlberg feel so maybe this is open some doors for him.

Yeah…I don;t know what to make of this either. The Marine wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t good either. The biggest problem I see with this movie is when they advertise they say, “From the director that brought you Speed and Die Hard 2″, and I’m thinking “Those movies were garbage”. I would say maybe when it comes to DVD if there isn’t anything better at Blockbuster, maybe I’ll rent it. By then it will probably be forgotten about.
Oh, and hasn’t this plot been played out a thousand different ways already?
I know! This is so played out and has no new appeal to it to set it apart from the higher budget, better marketed films. I guess, like you, I’ll watch it if I’m truly desperate but I doubt it.
