I have an old VHS version of Howard the Duck that I recorded off of the television years ago so I may consider upgrading and buying the DVD, which was released on March 10, 2009.

Sure, it’s not going to win an Academy Award or anything but, for some movies, it just doesn’t matter. This is one of those quintessential 80s flicks that you can turn on, sit on the couch with some snacks and not have to think about. It’s lame, cheesy and doesn’t make much sense (Howard, the duck from space, is also an awesome musician? Um… okay) but you just have to go with it.
The film stars Lea Thompson (Back to the Future, Caroline in the City) and tells the story of a “fast-talking, cigar-chomping, beer-loving duck from a parallel universe who crashes to Earth.” The DVD includes new bonus features, a digitally remastered picture and new 5.1 surround sound.
Recognize the name but don’t remember much about the movie? Check out this clip – maybe it will refresh your memory!

Howard the Duck was quaint the first time I saw it, but grew on me more the second and third time I watched it, which happened over about a decade. I may even check out the DVD, my little nephew will love it.
