Will Smith’s movie, Seven Pounds, came out on DVD yesterday. It tells the story of an “IRS agent with a fateful secret embarks on an extraordinary journey of redemption by forever changing the lives of seven
strangers.” I hadn’t even heard of the movie until all the buzz started happening about a “twist” in the storyline. I was initially intrigued, after seeing the trailer, so I decided I had to go looking around the internet to find out what happens that is so interesting. Let me just say, if you’re inclined to do the same thing – DON’T. This “twist” (that most people could figure out if they put a little effort into understanding the title) seems to be the only thing going for this movie (even Rotten Tomatoes gave this a meager 28% approval rating) so don’t ruin it for yourself if you plan to see it.
If you are like me and doubt that you will ever watch it (or just don’t care about spoilers), you can find out what happens on Wikipedia. There is, apparently, one good thing about the movie. Critics hailed the performance of Smith’s co-star, Rosario Dawson, but I’m guessing it wasn’t enough, on its own, to save the movie. Too bad. I think she’s underrated and it would be great for her to have a breakout performance in a movie that actually does well.
Still interested? Watch the trailer (there are clues about the plot twist!):
