Oakland wins. So what. It is the preseason. Even my Detroit Lions are unbeaten. Yeah, Donavan McNabb looked good. So what.
We must all be drooling for the season to start. How else do you explain watching these preseason games? Sure, you want a glance at your QB or new running back, but after that? You got it, so what.
Must be on my Monday evening rant, but what the heck is exhibition season for anyway? You have to try out your rookies, get all your previously injured players some playing time, test out your backup QB and, and, and what? That’s right, it is a waste of the fans time. Yet we buy tickets.
None of this stops us, though. We get all excited. We tell our friends. We start our sports talk. And then the game begins… Hey, Donovan went 3 for 3 for 29 yards! Huh? Big deal. (Ok, if it was a Lions quarterback, it may have been a big deal). But do you think Peyton and Eli Manning picked up the paper and said “Wow, Donovan McNabb is on a roll”.
So why do we do it? You know, watch the preseason games. Why? Answer me, please. Ok, then the answer will have to come from your intrepid writer. We do it, because it is football. It is a sport where you can smash into people and it is a good thing. Where men are men. And somehow when we are cheering and jumping up and down and making touchdown signals, we are men too.
Happy Birthday, Manly Man. You see, part of my duties at home, include washing dishes (very manly), folding kids clothes (extremely manly), and buying groceries (absolutely manly). Yes, Manly man is soon to be my nickname. You get the point.
How about you? Same thing? Well, every Sunday we hear John Facenda’s voice telling us how brutal, strong, fast, and downright manly the NFL is going to be that afternoon and we watch and we yell. Touchdown! Look at me, Manly Man!
Fan Question How about you, are you a manly man?

As long as you are buying a lot of red meat, it is extremely manly :)
Don,
you crack me up.
Right now the Detroit Lions are playing the Denver Broncos and a few Brats with a few pops would be just about perfect. That is manly, isn’t it?
The Lions just beat the Broncos (20-13). I’m fully aware that it is only pre-season, but a win is a win, is a win…….
Ted,
agreed, it is so good to win. see today’s blog on the game stories.
