Delaware Senator Reads Martin Luther King’s ‘I Have a Dream’ Speech In Accepting Nomination; Insists He Was Just Using Speech To Generate His Own Ideas

Senator Joseph Biden today accepted the nomination to become Barack Obama’s vice president in a powerful and moving speech designed to unite the country. In what may be a harbinger of things to come, Biden lifted the entirety of his acceptance speech from Martin Luther King’s iconic ‘I Have A Dream’ address.

New York Times reporter Pierce Deere said, “I kind of thought the speech sounded familiar but I couldn’t quite place it.”

A Google search later revealed that Biden’s remarks were virtually identical to those given by the former civil rights leader back in 1963.

Biden defended his wholesale use of King’s speech saying, “It accurately reflected my own feelings and, sooner or later, I would have given him credit for it.”
