Obama Unveils Economic Team
Dark Suits, Red Power Ties Featured In Hit Runway Show
Barack Obama unveiled his new economic team yesterday and, as expected, this year’s hot President-elect drew rave reviews for his bold use of dark fabric set off by deep burgundy and serious blue rep ties.
First down the runway was Domestic Policy director Melody Barnes who struck a somber note with her practical hairstyle and all-black tapered suit.
National Economic Council director Lawrence Summers was next, looking slightly washed out in a white, button-down dress shirt and unobtrusive tie. The dowdy NEC director gave Ms. Barnes a wide berth as he passed her on the runway and pointedly refrained from any remarks suggesting her innate abilities in math did not match his.
The gathered economistas came to their feet with the announcement of NY Fed Chairman Timothy Geithner as Treasury Secretary and Geithner’s purposeful stride down the runway crackled with attitude.
The show marked a dazzling beginning for the charismatic President-elect who immediately sought to dampen expectations by declaring “things will get worse before they get better” and reminded the crowd his team faced “an economic crisis of historic proportions.”
“I’ve sought leaders who could offer both sound judgment and fresh thinking, both a depth of experience and a wealth of bold new ideas,” said Obama.
“But most of all,” the President-elect noted, “I’ve selected a group of people who were in positions of power and who stood by as this whole thing unfolded in the first place.”
