Ohno…journalists/writers/bloggers everywhere cannot resist using the convenient cliche that is Apolo’s last name whenever he chokes on the Short Track event.
And Apolo gave them an opportunity again tonight when he failed to clinch Gold at the Men’s 1,000m event.

Ohno came into these games a heavy favorite to win all the Short Track events. Instead, the best he managed so far was the Bronze he received tonight.

1 minute 24.1 seconds – Lee overtakes Ohno to take second place (Source: NBC)
1 minute 24.1 seconds into the competition, Lee made a bold maneuver by moving oustide of the line to Ohno’s right, and dove into the tight spot separating Anh and Ohno just as the two were charging into the left turn.

1 minute 25.8 seconds – Ohno’s fate is sealed when the two South Koreans coasted to victory (Source: NBC)
With two South Koreans ahead of him on the final turn to the finish line, Ohno was blocked – his fate sealed.
If it can be called a consolation at all, this Bronze Medal gave Ohno a complete set of Olympic Medals. Ohno won Gold (1,500m) and Silver (1,000m) at the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Ohno, I’m telling you, it’s that goatee. Lose it and your luck will change.
