U.S. Open - Day 14

Serena Williams, who with her sister Venus won Olympic Gold in the womens doubles competition, prevailed over Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic to win the womens US Open single title yesterday at New York City’s Flushing Meadows. Williams won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.

Serena Williams is no stranger to the US Open. This is her third US Open singles title and her 9th Grand Slam title…but it’s been a while. Her last US Open victory was in 2002.
