Olympics Day 12 - Taekwondo

Guillermo Perez of Mexico captured the gold medal in the men’s under 58-kilogram division at the 2008 Beijing Games in a thrilling match that was decided in overtime.  Dominican Republic’s Yulis Gabriel Mercedes won silver while Rohullah Nikpai took home the bronze, Afghanistan’s first-ever Olympic medal.  A second bronze was awarded to Taiwan’s Chu Mu-yen.

In the women’s under 58-kg division, Wu Jingyu of China took the top prize after defeating Thailand’s silver medal winner, Buttree Puedpong.   Dalia Contreras Rovero of Venezuela and Mu-Yen Chu of Taiwan won the bronze medals.

It’s worth noting that Canadian, Ivett Gonda, claims to have been “ripped” and “robbed” of her chance at winning a medal due to unfair judging and a rejected protest.
