June 5, 2007 – World Environment Day, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) published the preliminary programme for the upcoming 7th World Conference on Sport and the Environment. Under the motto “From Plan to Action”, various stakeholders from within and outside the Olympic Movement will meet and contribute to this event, which will be hosted in Beijing, China, from 25 to 27 October 2007. This seventh edition of the Conference is being staged jointly by the IOC and the Beijing 2008 Organising Committee (BOCOG), in close partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Just celebrated World Environment Day and the IOC and other organisation they are working with made it extra special by releasing the preliminary program for the upcoming 7th World Conference on Sport and the Environment in Beijing.
It reminded me of a few questions raised on what effects that the Games can make on a Host City. Apart from the risk of endangering historical landmarks, or even heritage sites, it can possibly pose some sort of risk to the environment, too. And, according to the article, that’s the main thing they’d want to clear out during the conference.
Maintaining and promoting a healthy environment is always a good thing, right? So, yea, sports fans… Sports are somewhat connected with it and a sports event like the Olympics can leave a lasting impression on certain advocacies like developing, enhancing and leaving a green legacy.
Thoughts?
