ON THE WAY TO EASTER 1
Yesterday, Sunday, is Palm Sunday and the start of Holy Week in Christendom, culminating on Easter Sunday. In tune with Holy Week, Accounting Solver takes a break from cash & accounting matters and talks about rituals, beliefs and practices in the Philippines during Holy Week, ranging from the prayerful and sublime to the cabalistic and bizarre.
The b5media blog that brings you goings-on abroad is Doing Biz Abroad of J Christopher Erb and Jean Mercedes. This week, Accounting Solver goes travelogue and writes about tourist attractions in the Philippines during Holy Week.

On Palm Sunday, devotees bring palms to church which are blessed before the mass. The palms are taken home and placed around religious pictures and statues. The belief is these palms keep the home safe. As the palms are blessed objects, these are not thrown away as trash, but burned. Next year’s ashes (for Ash Wednesday) come from this year’s palms. Some farmers bury them in their fields believing that these will bring in a good harvest.
