The Federal Trade Commision (FTC) has recently opened a new web site designed to help computer users learn about their computer security options. Several government agencies, advocacy groups and business leaders are working together to help computer owners beat the threat from identity thieves, predators and hackers.
OnGuardOnline.gov provides practical tips from the federal government and the technology industry to help you be on guard against Internet fraud, secure your computer, and protect your personal information.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) maintains OnGuardOnline.gov with significant contributions from partners on this page. The Flash tutorials were created by the Internet Education Foundation (IEF), and the spyware tools database was created, and is maintained, by IEF. The security videos were created by Microsoft Corporation.
The organizations that are involved make a pretty impressive list. Those organizations are the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, the Department of Homeland Security, the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Department of Commerce, Technology Administration, the Securities and Exchange Commission, GetNetWise, the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), the Anti-Phishing Working Group, TRUSTe, i-SAFE America, AARP, the National Consumers League, the Direct Marketing Association, WiredSafety.org, The SANS (SysAdmin, Audit, Network, Security) Institute, The National Association of Attorneys General, the Better Business Bureau, NetFamilyNews, The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) and the National Crime Prevention Council
