Scammers continue to use Craigslist to take advantage of trusting victims.  Many are using the name of eBay onlineoutpostdrop-off store chain Online Outpost to further their nefarious schemes.

Here are some of the recent comments FranchisePick.com has received regarding Craigslist scams using Online Outpost name.

I bought a “travel trailer” in March for $2000.00. The guy was “in Hawaii on his honeymoon”. He said he was using the online outpost to handle the actual sale and delivery of the item. Needless to say, I was stupid and sent the money and of course, I just love my invisible trailer. My husband and I got a loan to be able to purchase it. Now, we are still having to pay that off.

Hi Dennis; Unfortuneatly I did get scammed, tried to purchase a peice of equipment off of cragslist, thru online outpost paying thru money gram. After money was sent there was no further contact from seller or online outpost. Discovering after the transaction that all the links to respond to where not ligeate. Such as misspelled words in those links and not the correct spelling for the online outpost website. I am not sure what information you have that could help me but anything is worth a shot. Thanks for your time. Dave

Someone tried to scam me the same way on Craig’s List, selling a boat worth $13,000 for $3000. Wouldn’t give me the VIN or let me see it. He wanted me to pay him through the Online Outpost, but I went on the website and called all the phone numbers . They were all fake. The addresses were fake too. Beware!

I was going to buy an embroidery unit through craigs list. Once I said I had family in Boise, where the unit was and they could look at it and pick it up, the seller told me he had moved back to Canada. He directed me to the OnLineOutpost to buy it and wanted moneygram used. he told me not to tell moneygram that it was a person receiving the money or they would charge me taxes and higher fees. When I asked to have it shipped C.O.D. he said to use another moneygram store. I decided OnLineOutpost is a scam because the story changed each time I pushed for details or payment methods be changed.

@Cameron… was he selling a maverick durance? I’ve seen this same bike being “sold” over and over through craigslist for about $2000. When contacted, he diverts to this online outpost. very fishy and I don’t want to get burned. Thanks for your post.

Bob

I just recently tried to buy tickets through craigslist for a concert that was the next day. Found someone selling tickets much cheaper than the brokers were. I called her and left a message but didnt hear back. Tried the nex day and she answered and said all she had left were the tickets for $100 each (still cheap for this concert). So I told her I wanted them. She said she could have them left at will call by Ticketmaster in my name within the next 30 minutes…all I had to do was go to Walmart and send the money through Moneygram. I had never purchased tickets this way, and had NEVER used Moneygram. I said I didn’t want to use that method and asked if she could take Paypal. Of course she couldn’t! Anyway…all I had to do was read the disclaimer by craigslist to know everything I needed to know. I guess when you’re in a rush you overlook those things. Never again. I called ticketmaster first who said unless the person has the same last name, they can’t change the will call name. I told her this and she said she had just done it for the concert the night before. And that she had to PHYSICALLY go to a Ticketmaster location. (That made a little sense) So I went to the Walmart. The scammer said the transaction was safe because she couldn’t pick up the money until I called to give her my test question answer and confirmation code. That was a lie….I spoke with the MG rep who told me you can pick up the money with just an ID…or sometimes you can pick up the money with just the confirmation code and the test answer WITHOUT an ID. And if the person at Moneygram is a friend of the scammer you are really out of luck. She lived in a small hick town in Mississippi…and you know most people either know or are related to eachother in those small towns. She never got the money…she was calling to see if Id wired it while I was still there talking to the MG rep. They said they see those scams ALL DAY EVERYDAY. BTW…called will call at the Venue who didn’t have tickets in my name. Told her this and she said…Well I just changed the name so it may take a while…but they didn’t have tickets in her name either. Last contact, 2 hours before the show started, I texted her and said I would wire her the money AFTER the concert starts (called her bluff). She replied she had cancelled the tickets in my name and didn’t feel “confortable” waiting on her money. CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS ITCH’S NERVE! So you just forfeit the tickets that you supposedly paid for? So who’s going to the concert if you’re in a diff state? NO ONE – because there were no tickets. Dont get emotional about your purchases…or you will get taken! Always think rationally…no matter how bad you want the item at that great price. Better to want and not have than to pay for it, and still want and not have!
