Online retailers are using social media more and more….you just have to look at your Twitter followers to know that! Latest market research at emarketer shows “More than one-half of Web retailers surveyed already use five of the 10 community or social media tools”

But more than that their plans are for more social media not less, for more tools not less. Here is the graph of how the online retailers are planning their marketing strategy

The emphasis is clearly on inclusion and community with the consumers – reviews, Facebook, social listening

The older tools like forums and suggestion boxes are not as used and fading from view. The one on the list which continues to grow in importance is the product review….all research shows that customer reviews have a positive effect on sales.

For me the connection tools and also a higher emphasis on filtering information will take the most of my attention :)
