Opening Ceremony Deceptions

Olympics - Opening Ceremony

It seems that the Beijing Opening Ceremonies were not all completely as they appeared to be on Friday. On Saturday, the organizers of the event admitted that the spectacular footprint fireworks (one of which is pictured above) that led from the historic center of Beijing to the National Stadium were mostly computer-generated for the worldwide television audience. Only the last two “prints” were actually visible in Beijing.

Okay. I suppose I understand not wanting to leave that detail to chance, wind, and weather. However, today’s story about the ceremonies is more disturbing.

This morning, ABC News reported that the little Chinese girl, the one who sang “Ode to the Motherland” and won the hearts of viewers, was actually lip-syncing. The seven-year-old that was originally scheduled to appear–and the one who actually sang the song–was deemed not pretty enough to appear in the ceremony. I think that’s going a bit too far to make everything “perfect”
