Otter Tail announced over the weekend that they will be opening a wind farm in North Dakota. Construction on the wind farm, which will be near Lake Ashtabula, will begin this week and Otter Tail believes that it will be finished prior to the beginning of 2010.
This latest North Dakota wind farm is part of a project called the Luverne Wind Farm. This project will reportedly cost more than $100 million. However, reports indicate that Otter Tail will try to get a 30% grant made available after the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. To do so, the company will need to act fast in the construction of the wind farm.
Said Chuck MacFarlane, the president of Otter Tail Power Company: “Our wind energy projects must be cost-effective for our customers, which means that we must be able to complete a project in a time frame that allows us to use tax incentives. We particularly appreciate the work of willing business partners, landowners, and other community stakeholders, as well as the many local and state government offices and agencies that helped bring this project together. It’s a well-suited addition to our balanced and least-cost energy resource plan.”
Otter Tail Power Company is part of the Otter Tail Corporation that has experience in the electric, manufacturing, food processing, infrastructure and health service industries.
