Ouija Brand Extends to Movies

Back in February, I published a post that discussed a partnership between Universal Studios and Hasbro to bring a number of popular toy and game brand names to the big screen. It’s now a done deal, and the first movie to be filmed will be based on the Ouija board game and brand.
The specifics of the movie are being kept secret right now, but as you’d expect, it will have a supernatural theme with the Ouija board playing an important role.
As I asked in my post back in February, I have to wonder how good this movie and the others that will inevitably follow will be. I’m certain they’ll draw a strong buzz thanks to the well-known brand names, but unless the movies themselves are good, the brand recognition will only go so far. We all saw what happened to “The Haunted Mansion” which was made by the same production company that is making the Ouija movie — Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes.
It seems that so many movies like this rely 100% on the brand name and put very little effort into creating a good movie. “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” is one of the few movies that was based on an existing brand name that is actually good. What do you think?
