This is the guy whose ass you need to go kick:
Bored at work today

Date: 2007-09-11, 3:49PM EDTSlow day today in the office. Needed to do something to make it a little exciting so I started a rumor that Tom was going to get laid off. Tom is married with 5 kids and always thinks they are going to lay him off. So after I let the office gossiper overhear a conversation about it, I watched her go to Tom and tell him. The look on his face was fucking priceless. I see him start to get real nervous. Pete, the guy next to him (my partner in crime) heard him on the phone crying to his wife so Pete put his phone on speaker so I could hear it. Tom then came into my office asking what I knew. I told him nothing was concrete but I heard rumblings that there were going to be layoffs. And that other companies on the Island in our area were laying off too. And that there would be no serverance package. Man, I am one sick sadistic fuck when I’m bored.
No sir, you are an ass. It’s one thing to play practical jokes on fellow co-workers, it’s a whole other story to convince a father of five he’ll soon be unemployed. Do you have children? Do you know what it takes to support a family? Do you know how worrisome it is to wonder how you’re going to feed your family? You completely effed up someone’s day today. This wasn’t a joke, there was nothing funny about it. I wish you the proper Karma in return.

Aw, why did you take out the return address?
This guy needs to get a mess of emails telling him what a heel he is. Obnoxious @&*#$. I hope his bosses find out he’s the one creating layoff rumors. They’ll be oh-so-pleased (not) at what he’s doing to damage workplace morale, all because he’s bored.
Say, if he’s got nothing to do at work but spread rumors, maybe they don’t need HIM and will lay HIM off. It’d serve him right.
What an asshole.
I agree with you about the Karma thing, CC. He’s just a mean SOB who probably has no life.
I think I may have dated him when I was younger… hmmm…
In a past life I was in a position to determine who got hired in my group. I was in an industry (aerospace) notorious for frequent layoffs. This guy I knew vaguely, who worked for another company once bragged to me about doing something similar to someone where he worked.
I told him it was a rotten thing to do. He responded by telling me I did not have a sense of humor.
A few months later he applied for a job at the company where I worked. I was asked if I knew him. I related the story of his “joke” at the other company. I also said he was an outstanding engineer, but I did not want him in my group, as I felt someone like that would be too disruptive to group cohesion, but that everyone else could do as they wished.
No one made him an offer.
Can’t believe how immensely stupid and mean people can be. As my dad, may his soul rest in peace, used to say: 98% of the world’s population is made out of idiots. Only consolation in cases like this one is the belief that, eventually, what goes around come around…
I’m stunned. I can’t believe this was on Craigslist — it’s bad enough t sort through all the dribble jobs and now we have to sort through this stuff too. I agree bad karma is on it’s way to this guy.
