Patrick Swayze lost his fight with pancreatic cancer on Monday. Pancan, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, expressed their sadness.
Said Julie Fleshman, Pancan’s President and CEO: “On behalf of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, I would like to offer my condolences to his wife, Lisa and the entire Swayze family. For nearly two years he was beating the odds stacked against him and his brave, public battle was a beacon of hope for the pancreatic cancer community.”
Pancan claims to be the only organization in the United States that creates hope for people with pancreatic cancer. Their way of creating hope is through advocacy, community outreach, research and patient support. The organization also aggressively seeks funding to find a cure for the deadly disease.
According to Pancan, 95% of people who are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer will die within five years. Despite that stunning statistic, only 2% of the National Cancer Institute’s budget goes toward pancreatic cancer research.
