Patio 2.0

I managed to sneak out yesterday afternoon for a quick “refreshment” with a bunch of Canadian Web 2.0 types, including Zigtag’s Reg Cheramy, Ambient Vector’s Sutha Kamal and David Crow, and Peter Dawson. While Reg provided some more detailed about Zigtag’s plans to make search better, he did not spill all of the beans despite being peppered with questions by Peter and I. Reg admits he has ambitious plans that may have to phased in over time rather than coming out with everything when the beta is ready. (Here’s a TechCrunch post on Zigtag.) The other thing that struck me yesterday was the amount of Web 2.0 activity in Toronto. Aside from the patio meeting, there was a P2P event at the Rivoli yesterday afternoon. Then, there’s a series of conferences being hapening later this year including the Word of Mouth confernece and BlogHer Canada (??). When we organized the mesh conference earlier this year, one of the reasons we did it was to promote and encourage the Web 2.0 community. It certainly looks like there is more happening, which makes me even more excited about mesh 2007.

The Patio party was a good time.
Zigtag is evolving nicely and those on the patio had the latest scoop on what Zigtag is doing. There is a lot more to tell in the coming months.
A special thanks goes to David Crow as he really helped put it all together. I was honorer to have a dozen people show up for the event on about 24 hours notice.
One of the funnier things was 2 guys walked in that were ‘web geeks’ but didn’t know the event was happening. They joined us and fit in just fine.
Next time I’m out there, we’ll shake it up again… hopefully with more notice.
Cheers!
Reg
From what I see zigtag really is just a wrapper around other companies search technlogy. Zigtag does not actually have its own search engine.
