Pats Fans Petition to Turn Back the Clock

We almost have football season out of our system, and we’re thisclose to “moving on” from the Super Bowl, as suggested by our pal Bill Belichick (or in this case, Roger Clemens, wink wink).
But we can’t slip away quietly while the anti-Pats crowd is still having a field day at our expense. (And speaking of “Pats,” thanks to the one from Vero Beach who reads this blog and sent us the link).
It all started last week when one overly optimistic but admirably determined New England Patriots fan began an online petition asking for an investigation of the last 1m, 40s of the Big Dance. Said fan claims the clock shouldn’t have stopped after Brandon Jacob’s 4th and 1 mini-miracle, one of many for the Giants dive into the turf.
Now, it’s one thing to cast a wary sidelong glance at such endeavors, maybe even with a punctuating “sniff” to boot. Even an eyeroll is OK.
But when Pats-haters resort to low-blow name-calling, they’re only adding fuel to the Pats fans’ fire and overlooking a key point: We HEART the fact that we can still get under your skin. It’s like schadenfreude** in reverse!
There were 16,870 signatures on the petition at post. Oh wait, then yours truly signed . . . so make that 16,871. Anything we can do to ruffle the feathers of Pats-haters, despite losing the Super Bowl, is a worthy cause. *insert prissy grin here*

I’m not a “Pat’s-hater”, but I’m certainly no fan either. As far as this absurd petition (which has already been debunked at numerous fan sites, including a Pats mb) “getting under my skin” – please… I find it nothing more than mildly amusing :-) And if you look closely at the “signatures” in this embarassing show of soreloser-ism, you’ll see that 99.9% of them are parodies, rightfully making fun of a truly pathetic endeavor.
Darn! You mean we can’t even get other the skin of non-fans anymore? What has HAPPENED to us? How can we be losing our touch like this? Thank goodness baseball season is right around the corner, and we can start fresh with the whole Red Sox nation thing.
And—ssh! don’t tell, but we only signed the petition for blog foddah purposes. We’re crazy for the Patriots but we’re not crazy crazy. ;-)
